For the 2023-24 school year, TAME will provide engineering curriculum resources based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs. By aligning our curriculum with this global framework for positive change, we hope to engage students and further expose them to the many exciting opportunities within engineering.
2023-24 Program Updates: TAME Clubs
Toolkits will continue! This year’s toolkit is better than ever and includes access to the SDG Digital Learning Guide, which is the curriculum, as well as the TAME Community Hub, an online community and collection of web-based engineering learning resources. The toolkit will also include a Tackle Box with activity supplies, TAME t-shirts, stickers and notebooks.
TAME has made a significant investment to improve the Toolkits this year to better support our Clubs to deliver engaging afterschool engineering programs. Given that, we are still evaluating whether TAME’s budget will allow us to include a gift card for materials and snacks as we have done in past years. (So please don’t highlight the gift card as a recruitment tool for Club Leaders yet.)
TAME Club registration opens on August 7, 2023.
One important change this year is that Clubs need to register a minimum of 8 students, up from 6 last year. All other requirements stay the same:
- Have an adult sponsor
- Have at least 8 student participants in grades 6 – 12
- Have regularly scheduled meetings (in person or virtual) related to STEM subjects
- Have student membership that is at least 60% comprised of groups that are underrepresented in STEM or the TAME Club is within a Title 1 school*
- Club and student registration will open on August 7 and will remain open throughout the school year
*60% of student members must be from TAME focus student groups that are underrepresented in engineering (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous/Native American, or girls) OR the TAME Club must be at a Title 1 school.

2023-24 Program Updates: TAME Competitions
TAME Regional Competitions in 2024 will be similar in format to the 2023 competitions. Competitions for 2024 can be scheduled between January 12 and March 2. Competitions will build on students’ learning about the SDGs and the Engineering Design Challenge will focus on renewable/solar energy.
Due to limited Chapter Leadership in three Chapters, in 2024 TAME will combine Competitions for TAME Dallas and TAME Fort Worth in Fort Worth, and Competitions for TAME San Antonio and TAME Capital Area in Austin.
Recognizing how important State Competitions are to students, TAME hopes to bring back a State Competition in 2024. We are not certain we have the resources to do so but will provide an update to the TAME community by September.
Chapters must decide on a date and venue for the Regional Competition by September 1. It’s a good idea to start putting together your Competition coordination team and creating a plan to recruit volunteers for your competition. TAME can support you with this, so please reach out if you need help!
Program Updates: TAME Scholarships
TAME will again offer scholarships to graduating seniors. Any senior engaged in TAME Clubs this year will be eligible to apply. The TAME Scholarship application will open on March 6 and close on April 12. Scholarship winners will be announced on April 26. In response to discussion at the TAME Board & Leadership retreat in April 2023, we plan to explore how we can improve the application and selection process this year.
More Details about the TAME 2023-24 Curriculum
The 2023-2024 curriculum will guide students through the first eight of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The curriculum consists of 10 lessons, including an introduction to the SDGs, an introduction to TAME’s approach to math enrichment learning, and eight lessons that align with SDGs 1-8.
Registered TAME Clubs will receive a materials toolkit with physical supplies for completing 50% of the engineering projects in the 2023-2024 curriculum. The other 50% of the lessons will be completed using free web-based computer science/engineering education platforms (MIT App Inventors, Teach Machine and Tinkercad circuits).
The 2023-2024 curricular content will be released in digital format on August 7. This SDG Digital Learning Guide can be shared as a recruitment tool to provide prospective TAME Club Leaders something to consider when deciding if they want to lead a TAME Club.
