Two middle-school African American girls grin at each other while using the Energy Stick exhibit. On one side they press their palms together, and with their other hands they hold either end of a plastic cylinder with lights inside. The contact between their hands creates a circuit and the Energy stick lights up and makes a noise.

And now I know what I'm going to be.

Trailblazer participant

TAME programs connect Texas kids to opportunities in STEM. When kids step onto the Trailblazer, it doesn’t matter if they’re in a small border town or a city center: they have access to the same high-quality, hands-on exhibits to spark their curiosity.

What’s more, they’re stepping into a structure that is designed to support them as they advance. We recognize that kids come from very different places, and our programs are designed to find them wherever they are. Our Trailblazers literally bring STEM opportunities to students across Texas, reaching communities that other programs simply cannot get to.

We train teachers to identify STEM skills in kids they might otherwise overlook. We focus recruitment on female and underrepresented minority students. We show kids not just what academic and career opportunities exist in STEM fields, but how to get there.

TAME creates equitable experiences for students from underrepresented groups to explore futures in engineering by fostering their sense of belonging and equipping them with knowledge, skills, and intergenerational support through statewide programming at no cost to students.
