2019 TAME Fort Worth STEM Competition Results

(Haltom City, TX) – The 2019 TAME Fort Worth Texas STEM Competition was hosted at Haltom High School on Saturday February 16, 2019. The free event brought together more than 110 student competitors from across the region. 

Texas students from grades 6-12 competed in individual math and science tests and as part of a team to solve an Engineering Design Challenge. Participants were sworn to secrecy about the Challenge – at least until March 3rd, when students across the state had their chance to try their skills solving the same problem. This year's challenge was developed by engineers from ConocoPhillips.

Ready, set – register your TAME Club!

The 34th annual State STEM Competition, presented by ConocoPhillips, is scheduled for April 27th, 2019 in the greater Houston area.

To participate, please register your TAME Club (tame.org/club2018) and students (tame.org/student2018) by 11:59 pm on November 7th. Clubs and students must register every year to participate in the Divisional & State STEM Competitions.

Fourteen Divisional STEM Competitions will be held around the state in January and February of 2019, and high-achieving participants from each of these qualifying events will be invited to attend the State Competition in April 2019.

STEM club creates opportunities for underrepresented groups

The TAME meeting filled the entire lecture hall with students. The guest speaker, an entrepreneur, brought in a device that connected the optic nerves of the student who wore it, allowing researchers to test how well these nerves functioned for the student.

Guest speakers from professional industries are one of the many opportunities offered to TAME club members. The mission of the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering is to increase the number of underrepresented groups in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields.

The top six finishers in each test and the top three teams from the Engineering Design Challenge were recognized. Three teams also received a special Judges' Choice Award for creative problem solving. One student from each grade level was recognized as the Ace Award Winner for the highest combined math and science score.
