Texas Students Go Fishing for STEM Success at 2019 State STEM Competition

(Huntsville, TX) – How does a whiffle ball lead to a career in engineering? In Huntsville, Texas, aspiring engineers faced a design challenge created by engineers from ConocoPhillips. Based on real-life situations in which wellbores are blocked by material known as “fish,” the challenge was part of the 34th annual State STEM Competition, sponsored by ConocoPhillips and held at the Forest Glen Camp in Huntsville, Texas. Students used paper clips, clay, and other materials to explore methods for removing wellbore blockages.

(Austin, TX) The Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering is pleased to announce the winners of the 1st annual Hashtag Contest for the 2019 TAME State STEM Competition, presented by ConocoPhilips on April 27th in the Houston area. TAME students across Texas submitted hashtag concepts, impressing judges with creativity and hard work.

Congratulations to Laura Thompson of The Science and Engineering Magnet at Townview Center for winning first place in this contest! The top scoring student receives a special invitation to the State STEM Competition. At State Ms. Thompson will awarded a $100 prize onstage. Her hashtags will be featured at the State STEM Competition on the giveaways that will be distributed to hundreds of participants.

(Austin, TX) The Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering is pleased to announce the winners of the 15th annual T-Shirt Design Contest for the 2019 TAME State STEM Competition, presented by ConocoPhilips on April 27th in the Houston area. TAME students across Texas submitted entries for the theme "Powering Civilization," impressing judges with artistic creativity and design.

Congratulations to Han Nguyen of Kerr High School for winning first place in this contest! The top scoring student receives a special invitation to the State STEM Competition. At State Ms. Nguyen will awarded a $100 prize onstage. Her design will be unveiled at the competition, where it will be featured on the t-shirts, event programs and other materials that will be distributed to hundreds of participants.

Texas Students Show Laser Focus at 2018 State STEM Competition

(Anna, TX) – What could you do with a bakery box, a laser beam, six lenses and an hour? Students from across Texas were presented with this challenge on Saturday, April 28th, as part of the 33rd annual TAME State STEM Competition, sponsored by Raytheon, hosted at YMCA Collin County Adventure Camp in Anna, Texas. Students used the supplies to focus and diffuse a laser beam during the Engineering Design Challenge segment of the competition.

Winners Announced for 2018 T-Shirt Design Contest


(Austin, TX) The Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering is pleased to announce the winners of the 14th annual T-Shirt Design Contest for the 2018 TAME State STEM Competition, presented by Raytheon on April 28th in the DFW area. TAME students across Texas submitted a record number of entries for the theme "Ideas in Orbit," impressing judges with artistic creativity and design.

Congratulations to Ivye Blythe Arioja Dolino of Presidio High School and the Presidio Rocketry and Robotics TAME Club for becoming the first student from TAME's West Texas Chapter to win first place in this contest! The top scoring student receives a special invitation to the State STEM Competition. At State Ms. Dolino will awarded a $100 prize onstage. Her design will be unveiled on the day of the event, where it will be featured on the t-shirts, event programs and other materials that will be distributed to hundreds of participants.

You Can Make TAME Students Smile

The State STEM Competition camp overnight is around the corner, and we're all Smiles! A BIG THANK YOU to Nicky and Jayme of Smiles of Austin for generously donating toothbrushes and toothpaste to keep participants' teeth happy. If you want to get in on the happiness, we're looking for a few more items to help make the STEM Competition a success. We'd welcome donations of 400 of any of the following: sleeping bags, blankets, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant), socks, and personal medical/first aid kits.
