“I’m really interested in biology; I find it mysterious.”
Nancy K. is a former TAME club member who is now a biology major at the University of Texas at Austin. She still enjoys hanging out with her friends.
How did you hear about TAME?
I got involved with TAME in 7th grade when a math teacher at my middle school in Pflugerville asked if anyone was available to attend a science and math competition over the weekend. I went and I had a great time. There’s always that nervous feeling when you’re taking tests. You want to do well and advance to the next level and have more fun, but I also got to hang out with my friends, which in 7th grade was the main selling point.
My middle school didn’t have a TAME club, but by high school we had a teacher who helped us prepare for the Math and Science competitions. She also brought in STEM professionals to talk to us about their careers and their career tracks. It gave us the opportunity to see a field that might want to go into, or sometimes a field that we didn’t!
Where will science will take you?
Now I’m a second year biology student at the University of Texas at Austin. I’m really interested in biology; I find it mysterious. I’m currently studying biology because I plan to go into the health care field and that requires a background in science.
