Q.  What is the Trailblazer?

A.  The Trailblazer is the only interactive science and engineering museum-on-wheels in Texas. Students, teachers and parents are invited to tour and explore the hands-on activities and exhibits that highlight fundamental concepts in science and engineering.  Volunteers are stationed throughout the trailer to provide demonstrations and explanations.  The Trailblazer visits schools and community events throughout the state helping raise students’ awareness of and motivation to pursue careers in science and engineering.

A. There are 8 Trailblazer Exhibits:

Q. What age group does the Trailblazer serve?

A.  The Trailblazer serves students in grades 3-7.

Q. What events does the typically Trailblazer attend?

A. Past Trailblazer events have included school visits, math & science festivals, university events, and corporate events.  Please visit the Past Trailblazer Visits page for a complete listing.

Q. How many students can the Trailblazer serve during a visit?

A. A tour of the Trailblazer is 30 minutes, and groups of approximately 20 students can be accommodated at a time.  About 40 students can tour the Trailblazer in 1 hour.

Q. Who provides the Trailblazer tours?

A. The Trailblazer Tour Coordinator facilitates the tours, along with at least 3 volunteers.

Q.  What are the dimensions of the Trailblazer?

A.  The external dimensions of the Trailblazer are 40 feet (length) by 10 feet (width) by 12 feet (height).  Trailblazer events typically occur outdoors, due to the generator.

Q.  How can I reserve the Trailblazer for an event?

A.  To reserve the Trailblazer for an event, please e-mail the Trailblazer Program Coordinator with the proposed location and possible dates for your event.  The Coordinator will provide further information about the usage fee and scheduling for a Trailblazer event.
