2010 Statewide Math and Science Competition- Chaperone Guidelines

  • The required ratio of adults to students is:

ONE chaperone to every EIGHT high school students (total of 3 per 20 students) ONE chaperone to every SIX middle school students (total of 4 per 20 students)

  • Expenses for additional chaperones are the responsibility of the individual and/or the chapter.

  • Chaperones MUST monitor the behavior of all students from their chapter throughout the event. Any group found to be acting irresponsibly, on the hotel premises or at the competition, will be disqualified, and their expenses will not be covered. Please convey the importance of proper behavior.

  • While in the hotel, students must be in their rooms, or with a chaperone at all times.

  • Students should not be allowed in any other hotel room than the one assigned to them. All visitation with peers should be done in a public area (i.e. hotel lobby, restaurant facility, etc.)

  • Students should remain in their rooms after 10:00 pm.

  • Pay-per-view movies or video games will not be allowed in any room.  Only room and tax are covered by TAME.  All other charges will be the direct responsibility of the chapter. TAME requires the hotel to de-activate pay-per-view and long distance in all rooms.

  • No students may use or possess tobacco products or alcohol.

  • Fighting, vandalism, or use of profanity will not be tolerated.

  • Swimming and/or congregating in the pool area is NOT permitted at anytime.  This is TAME policy set by the TAME Board of Directors.

  • On Saturday morning all groups must arrive at the testing facility by the specified time. Teams arriving late may not be allowed to participate.
    • There will be NO children under age 10 allowed into the facility on Saturday. No exceptions.

    • All attendees are expected to be respectful of the facilities and all equipment.  It is all of our responsibility to make sure we leave both our host and hotels with positive feelings about TAME, our members and participants.

    • If you must contact TAME staff members on Saturday, call the Executive Director cell phone at (512) 923-4501.

Guidelines Specific to our 2010 Competition:

    • No one will be allowed to participate if they have not been included in the chapter Registration Form prior to arrival. We must have a complete list of student and adult participants no later than Monday April 5th.
Remember that you are an agent of TAME, Inc. and are responsible for the safety and well being of your students. “Better Safe Than Sorry!”
