TAME involves thousands of Texas elementary, middle and high school students per year through a system of 16 alliances. Each TAME alliance works independently in its own community, ensuring that local resources are maximized and local needs are met. There has been a 101% increase in minority freshmen enrollment and a 92.8% increase in female enrollment in Texas university engineering programs since 1976. This increase in enrollment reflects the efforts of TAME and other groups working toward expanding the pipeline of underrepresented minorities and women entering in and graduating from engineering degree programs.
TAME activities are planned and administered by hundreds of volunteers who represent industry, education, government and parents.
Statewide, the TAME student population is more than 1/3 African American,
1/3 Hispanic, and 1/3 Anglo, Asian and Native American. More than
1/2 our participants are female. TAME involvement is greatest at
the middle & high school levels; some alliances also have active
elementary programs. State-run programs incorporate all K-12
students.
